9News Pet Check
Based on a survey of members that indicated strong support for the concept, CVMA is moving forward to partner with 9News in creating the 9News Pet Check. This two-day event on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 (hours determined by clinic) will offer a basic physical exam and rabies vaccination to Colorado dog and cat owners across the state who are low income or facing economic adversity.
CVMA is asking member clinics to volunteer to participate by giving pre-registered dogs and cats a basic physical exam and rabies vaccination as well as counseling pet owners on any additional veterinary care the animal may need (dentals, x-rays, blood work, etc). Participating clinics would be responsible for opening and staffing their clinics during the voluntary event and providing the complimentary exam and rabies vaccination (if appropriate).
Appointments would be made a week in advance through a call center – operated by CVMA staff and volunteers – until all available slots per clinic are filled. Your clinic may choose to participate with as few or as many appointment slots as you prefer. Your clinic may also choose to participate only on Saturday, only on Sunday, or for appointments on both days. Please click here for the enrollment form, information about making appointments available to 9News Pet Check participants, and a list of FAQs.
As part of the event, your clinic would agree to provide a basic physical exam routinely conducted at your clinic (lab analysis does not need to be included) and a rabies vaccination if deemed necessary. Based on your clinic’s estimated capacity, you will provide CVMA with the number of patients you believe you can reasonably see and the designated appointment times. Those slots will then be filled during the appointment reservation process to be handled by CVMA and 9News.
9News will promote the event on-air and have one designated day to accept appointment calls on its hotline (followed by a second if necessary). Based on the tremendous response to the 9News Health Fair and other community events, we are confident the event will fill to capacity quickly.
Why should you participate?
This is a tremendous public relations opportunity for Colorado veterinarians to represent the profession through their time, talent, and generosity, and it will go a long way in helping those in Colorado who might not otherwise see a veterinarian. It offers economically disadvantaged pet owners a chance to care for their canine and feline companions, and it offers you a chance to begin building a relationship that will benefit you, the clients, and their pets.
Additionally, the partnership with 9News provides a unique promotional opportunity for your clinic. After the event, 9News will publish on its website (as will CVMA) the roster of all participating clinics to recognize their generosity, their positive impact on animal and public health, and their contribution to local communities. The 9News website is the most-visited website in Colorado!
